A New Do

A little longer than a lob, this new do is the best haircut I've had in a long time.

I’ve desperately needed a haircut for weeks on end, but I was hesitant to visit my hairdresser until a few days ago, as I wasn’t sure what style I wanted to go for, or how much change I was willing to adopt.

By Wednesday evening, I still wasn’t sure which fate awaited my brown locks, but I knew I wanted a haircut that met the following criteria:

  1. Easy (doesn’t require a ton of styling every day). I loved having a fringe this time last year, but the amount of styling it took to nail my look in the morning was time-consuming and frankly, exhausting.

  2. Can still fit into a ponytail. In my ballet days, I always needed to keep my hair long enough that it would twirl into a neat little bagel bun on the back of my head. While that’s no longer a requirement for me, I still like to be able to pull my hair back into some sort of ponytail when I need to, and with warmer weather on its way, this was a must for me going into my hair appointment.

  3. Looks good both wavy and straight. I loved feeling like a mermaid some days, with luscious long locks of wavy (full disclosure: un-blow-dried) hair, but I knew I looked ten times more polished when my hair was straightened at this length. Upon entering my stylist’s chair, I knew I wanted a look that could pull off wavy and straight, and maybe even hold more of a curl.

Enter Rebecca Delconte, my trusted hair guru at The Alcorn salon. As per usual, Rebecca met all of my expectations, and then exceeded them, styling my front layers so that they weren’t indicative of the fringe I had been growing out for the past year, and angling my new do slightly forward, to allow for sultry beach waves when I want them.

I can’t tell you how much I love this hairstyle. It’s a little longer than the trendy lob, but weight has literally been lifted from my shoulders, and washing my hair takes so much less time now. I couldn’t feel fresher on this first day of spring.
