Embracing Minimalism

Do Less: A Minimalist Guide To A Simplified, Organized, And Happy Life, by Rachel Jonat

I found this book on a recent trip to Urban Outfitters and instantly gravitated towards it. I’ve always been a minimalist when it comes to interior décor and the outfits I wear, but this guide, by blogger, Rachel Jonat, illuminates the many benefits of embracing a minimalist ethos, and welcoming less into your life.

As Jonat explains, the minimalist movement first derived from art and design at the turn of the twentieth century. Since then, the approach has trickled into nearly every realm. In Jonat's book, minimalism is defined as a way of life that includes doing less, buying less and worrying less, all for the sake of a happier, more efficient, more balanced life. At its core, minimalism can be defined as investing minimum effort, to achieve maximum results. Do Less teaches you to work less, but work smarter, devote time to the things you want to be doing, maintain a chic, capsule wardrobe and save time and money while you’re at it. Jonat’s tips are great for those seeking to purge items from their closet, or yearning for more time to do the things they enjoy, but her philosophy is also an inspiring reminder that material things are not what make us happy in life. Spending time with the people we love, doing the things we love to do, and living in a safe, clean, healthy place, those are the things that bring us contentment.

I raced through this book, and absolutely love the ideals it promotes. You can find the book here, and enjoy Jonat’s blog here.
