Gift Ideas for Dad's Day

I'll always remember crafting questionable keepsakes as Father’s Day gifts for my dad, during my elementary school days. In grade three, our teacher very bravely helped every student in his class build bird feeders for the main men in our lives, and I took the liberty of choosing a dual colour scheme for mine: Kelly green and neon orange. Green has always been my dad’s favourite colour, and my eight-year-old self found the bright orange irresistible.
While my father adored the gesture, my mum was not as impressed. Looking back, I would have tried equally as hard to find a well-hidden spot for that bird feeder, considering how assertively it clashed with our home’s neutral décor. As with any gift though, isn’t it the thought that counts?
I had a blast shopping around for my eccentric father this year, and discovered lots of great gift ideas along the way. Here’s my guide for how to spoil dad, this Father’s Day.
1. Monogrammed Forged Steak Brand - These Williams Sonoma monogrammed steak branding tools are a must-have for the proud grilling master in your life. Let him show off his BBQ skills by branding his confectionary creations with his initials, before serving them to a table of carnivorous kids.
2. ‘My Dad is Rad' Baby Outfit – I stumbled across this gem on Etsy, and instantly fell in love. This adorable onesie doubles as an ode to the proud first time father, and a super hip outfit for his new spud.
3. Lululemon’s ABC Pant – Spoil your active dad with these versatile, comfortable pants from Lululemon’s men’s line. He can wear them to and from the gym, biking through the city, or kicking back with a beer in the backyard – they’re a multipurpose wardrobe staple he’s sure to love.
4. Slingbox M1 Media Streamer – For the fanatical sports dad who can’t bear to miss one game, the Slingbox Media Streamer is a life-changing device. This top-notch streamer allows you to watch and record programs from anywhere in the world, providing you’ve synced the gadget with your at-home cable or satellite subscription.
5. Woodlore Cedar Shoe Trees – If there’s one thing my father adores, it’s his shoe collection – I think he owns more pairs than my mother! This is a great gift for the dad who thinks as highly of his Cole Haan loafers as my father; he can take exquisite care of his favoured footwear with these high quality shoetrees.
6. Uncle Peter’s Man The 3PETE 416 Beard Oil – For the father who’s hipster at heart, Uncle Peter’s Man beard oil is the perfect present. This all-natural salve will condition and soften his whiskers while moisturizing the skin below. Plus, it smells spectacular.
7. Titleist Custom Golf Balls – One of my proudest girlfriend moments so far was last summer, when, for my boyfriend’s birthday, I gifted my beau with customized Titleist golf balls. Not only had I heard him praise the superior quality of Titleist golf balls for months prior, I also knew he would love seeing his initials engraved on a box of his very own Titleist Pro V1’s. You can have any words or design imprinted, and choose from a variety of colours and fonts as well. Dad will feel like a million dollars as he approaches the green to put his very own, personalized golf balls.
8. “Tesla: Inventor of the Electrical Age” by W.B. Carlson – This book is a must-read for any man lusting after the stylish electric car named after America’s first celebrity scientist. Author, W. Bernard Carlson, demystifies the story behind Nikola Tesla and the electrical inventions he is known for, as well as those he is not known for.
9. Happy Socks – If I were a guy, I would relish my sock-collection. That’s why I help all the men in my life curate their own vibrant repertoires when it comes to socks. I discovered the Happy Socks brand while down in San Francisco, and I've been a fan ever since. He’ll love making fun additions to his sock collection with this set.
10. DeLonghi Premadonna Exclusive ESAM 6900.M Espresso Machine – This is the ultimate coffee maker. Not only an incredible gift for dad, but for the entire family, this machine does it all – espresso, lattes, cappuccinos. The Jetsons-worthy device even has a specific “chocolate function”, for a marvelous mocha every time.
Happy Father’s Day!
